If you’re anything like me, you spend the 24 days of December leading up to the big one on the 25th thinking about what everyone else wants – what to get for the children, Aunty Mary, even your father-in-law (that shouldn’t really be your job, but somehow it is). But if you’re anything like me, […]
Before I begin this post, I MUST apologise for my pictures. We went at 5pm and it was dark dark – and I only take pictures for this blog on my iPhone as I cannot be fiddling around with a digital SLR with two children in tow (I know you get me). The pictures are […]
As I mentioned in my post about the Giles Leisure hot tub/swim spa (have you entered the comp yet?), my son broke a limb in November. We’ve spent a bit of time at the (fabulous) Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton, because it turns out bones heal slower in winter due to children absorbing less […]
I adore Christmas trees. I adore them for two reasons: first, I grew up in the Far East and real Christmas trees were something very very special because they had to stand in such an alien environment. They were imported and extortionate and a few times we went fake. But with a father from the Nordic countries, more often […]
A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post about alternative advent calendars, and earlier this week, shared my progress with the book one. When the original post was published, Lewes-based illustrator Leigh Hodgkinson commented on it, saying she was creating a sticker advent calendar. Among the enthusiastic comments on the post, everyone seemed to love the book idea, where you wrap up 24 books (in my case 25 because I am going to read the […]
In line with my plan to have the least stressful Christmas ever, I actually started Christmas shopping on Saturday. I am about halfway there and plan to have it all wrapped up – literally – by December 1st. So uncharacteristically organised!
Now Bonfire is behind us (did you have an amazing night?) we can start talking Christmas in earnest. So let’s start with what I think is the MOST marvellous idea for a Christmas present, just launched last week at Bags of Books. It’s a YEAR OF BOOKS!
Well that’s done and dusted for another year, and as of yesterday I’m the mother of a six-year-old. Although this makes me feel decrepit, I must say that this year I feel I finally ‘got’ the kids’ party thing.
So a couple of days ago I wrote about our fun fun fun weekend away in Helsinki. Sorry, this was not meant to be an exercise in gloating. I wasn’t trying to make anyone feel jealous. I just couldn’t help but write about it because it was so fun fun fun. Anyway, for practicalities’ sake (because that […]
